“The SBDC’s support was TREMENDOUS. They helped us secure a $1 million loan to go toward the construction of our organic citrus packing facility, which is the first of its kind in the Imperial Valley. In addition, their knowledge and contacts enabled us to obtain employee training reimbursements and tax credits as well. Thank you SBDC!”

The entrepreneurial Dockstader family is largely responsible for Calipatria, CA’s reputation as the “Hay Mecca”, and for good reason. The company farms thousands of acres of hay and supplies 60,000 tons annually to domestic and export hay markets.

Looking to vertically integrate its fruit processing, the company reached out to the SBDC for support in building a new facility, ultimately securing $1M in financing via the County of Imperial Agriculture Benefit Program along with significant employee training reimbursements and tax credits.

More good news: new facilities require new employees, and the company expects that the facility will create 30 new jobs as well.

After an excellent first 9 months in business, owner Carlos Arreola reached a bottleneck that was holding back the company’s growth. To keep pace with an expanding customer base, he needed new equipment and additional employees to increase capacity. But like many small businesses, CM Auto Pros did not have a formal business plan or the level of financial recordkeeping required by lenders. Then the SBDC entered the picture. After helping Carlos create a business plan and get the company’s books in order, the loan application sailed through and CM’s owner immediately kicked his growth plans into action.
